Following Jesus with Our Bodies | Feb Sermon Series

How do you think about your body? As followers of Jesus, we’re not always clear on our bodies.

Many of us experienced religious ideas that our bodies were bad and shameful. But if they’re bad, why did God create them?

Others think that their body is something different than their authentic self. The body is more of an incidental piece of machinery that has nothing to do with who we really are.

The New Testament talks about “the body” as a metaphor for the Christian family. But this series isn’t about that. It is actually about our physical, breathing, flesh covered bodies.

The Biblical starts with created human bodies and ends with redeemed human bodies. Here we are in the middle of the story trying to figure out how to follow Jesus, not just with our spirits, but also with our bodies.

As we explore what the Bible has to say about our physical bodies, we’ll realize that it hasn’t been silent. We just overlooked everything the Bible was pointing us towards with our bodies.

This series will span four Sundays. We’ll also have two online convos where Pastor John will interview scholars, therapists and theologians exploring the body from different perspectives.
