Friday 2/11 Daily Prayer

Friday 2/11 Daily Prayer
The Word: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Mt. 5:6

“The more one conforms to God’s will, the more fulfilled and content one becomes. But that in turn spawns a greater discontent. Our hunger increases and intensifies in the very act of being satisfied.”

“If you do hunger and thirst for righteousness, if the Lord has given you a holy discontent with your life, you have his smile!”

-Ray Ortlund

Jesus,

I often day dream about a better life, more comfort and pleasure. But how often do I daydream about becoming more like You?

The good news is you’re committed to working righteousness in me. You’re committed to making me think, act and love more like you.

When I see who I honestly am compared to you, I tend to feel ashamed. But you don’t say “blessed are those ashamed of their unrighteousness.” You say, “blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness.”

The very gap between you and me is something that can cause a holy hunger, a spiritual thirst, to become more like you!

What a relief it is that my dissatisfaction with my unrighteousness is actually a space to long for your righteousness.

Because of that, I’m going to openly pray that you would change a specific area of my life. I have a sinful area that I’m afraid to be honest about with you. But I come in faith, confession my sin of _________ and trusting that you can change me to be ___________.

So I hunger and thirst for your righteousness today, and ask you to change me and make me more like you.

Amen.

What was your take-away from this week? Let me know.
