Judges: Flawed People & Whole-Hearted Worship | Fall Sermon Series

Broken heroes, cycles of sin, bravery, violence and redemption…Judges has it all.

Ever seen the movie, "He's Just Not That Into You" ?

Being whole-hearted in a relationship with a half-hearted person is tough. It is clarifying to admit, "That person is just not into me."

Half-heartedness plagues us all, both towards us and in us. As we start a new series in Judges, we'll see that the people of God were half-hearted towards God and his commands. They thought they were in with God, but they weren't just that into Him. What lessons does that have for us today? #hesjustnotthatintoyou #judges #obedience #judges1

Worship can wreck us.

Worship is a religious word, but everybody worships something. As we open up Judges chapter 2, we see that Israel had a worship wreck. Why did they wreck? In this sermon, you'll learn why worshiping anything but God can lead to major life catastrophe, but how God's grace is the path home.

We all need deliverance, but God loves to use the unlikely to deliver. Watch as Pastor John unpacks Judges 3 verse by verse with Othniel and Ehud. It’s suprising, violent and inspiring.

Life is always a battle. That's not all it is. But the battle is always there.

Do you resonate with this? As Christians, we have enemies of the world, the flesh and the devil. So no wonder life is always a battle.

But the good news is that God is in the battle, and he will win. As we open up Judges 4 today we'll see how God delivers Israel through Deborah and Barak, and how he delivers the battle to them, because God fights the battle.

How would you live if you had confidence you wouldn’t fail?

We are all looking for self-confidence, a feeling that "I can do this!" But what happens when we can't?

Today we look at pt 1 of the story of Gideon, a man marked by fear and doubt.

Have you ever seen the movie Dumb and Dumber?

There's this great line where Jim Carrey's character asks a woman, "What are our chances?"

She says, "Not good." He responds, "Like one in a hundred."

She grimaces, "More like one in a million."

He smiles and says, "So you're telling me there's a chance."

Carrey's character flips the script on the story.

In Judges chapter 8, Gideon flips the script on God's story and makes it all about him. Do we ever do the same?

Have you ever felt like someone didn't get you? As the people of Israel descend further and further into chaos, we see that they really don't get God. And neither does the judge Jephthah that is chosen to lead them. #judges #idols

How do you see it? We often think Samson's story is about his strength, but behind that is a mindset that says "I see it how I see it. I want what I see. I will live my truth."
