Faith For Exiles - Sermon Series

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER SERMON SERIES

YOU COULD NOT BE BORN AT A BETTER PERIOD THAN THE PRESENT,
WHEN WE HAVE LOST EVERYTHING.
— Simone Weil

When Babylon captured God’s holy city of Jerusalem and took the people of God into captivity, the Israelites didn’t think “what a time to be alive?!” Rather, the people of God couldn’t wait to escape Babylon and get back home and back to normal. But God had another purpose for them.

Today, Christians are wrestling with “not feeling at home” in our culture. Many in our society think followers of Jesus are problematic or immoral. Online content seems to undo the discipleship that many churches are trying to accomplish. Followers of Jesus are confused about who they are and what God is calling them to accomplish when they lack cultural power and are struggling to thrive.

This is why FAITH FOR EXILES is so important for today’s Christian. The New Testament authors found solace in this idea that Christians are not at home, not comfortable or welcome in society. But they were still called to walk with resilient faith in the midst of resistance.

In FAITH FOR EXILES: resistance and resilience, we’ll explore stories from the time of exile like Daniel and Esther and the words of exilic prophets like Jeremiah to orient us on how to live for Jesus when we’re not at home.
