Every new year, people evaluate their fitness. They examine their financial fitness, and especially their physical fitness.
We are going to start off by exploring and evaluating our spiritual fitness, but as a local expression of the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:27 says that “Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it.”
There is this sense that you can evaluate your own spiritual fitness. But you can’t do that without looking at the body of believers you are connected to. You are an individual, who is a member of the body of Christ. You are a unique, and part of a unique spiritual family.
We are going to be asking questions about how to become a more spiritually fit local church. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be looking at different aspects of becoming a spiritual fit local expression of the church.
The reason we call this “Cross Fit” is because every single thing we talk about comes out of what Jesus has done for us on the cross. Spiritual fitness is based on the weight of the cross that Jesus has carried on our behalf. It isn’t just based on our efforts, determination, and resolve, but on God’s grace, mercy and love to us in the cross of Jesus Christ.
Come ready to be challenged to be a spiritually fit church.
