Jesus Prayed

Mark 1:35-39

by Pastor John

RISING, DEPARTED, WENT, PRAYED.

The ESV Study Bible points out Jesus’ resolve to spend time alone with His Father. In the midst of all the demands of ministry, He went away to pray. The disciples are surprised that Jesus would step back when everyone is looking for Him. Without even addressing the disciples questions about Him missing, Jesus says, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.” From there He goes on to preach and cast out demons.

Jesus is all powerful, yet He takes time to grow intimacy with His Father through prayer. If Jesus carved out time from His busy schedule to pray, should we follow His pattern?

After Jesus prays, He seems very ready to jump back into the thick of darkness and brokenness. Do we pray with an expectation that God will empower us to show His light in dark places?
