The Servant King

Mark 1:9

By Pastor John

"In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. " (ESV)

Question authority.

That’s what we hear these days.

Why? Because you can’t trust authority. Many use power to protect themselves instead of serving others.

But that’s why Jesus’ is so different.

Mark has already told us that people need to repent to get ready for the coming of Jesus.

But when Jesus comes, He doesn’t crush the repenters. Rather, He identifies with them.

Jesus’ first act of public ministry is not to distinguish or separate Himself from sinners, but to be baptized with them.

Jesus is God. Sinless. Perfect. With absolute authority and power.

Yet he foreshadows laying down His life by being submerged alongside those He for who He will die.

Jesus is the kind of authority that causes us not to question Him, but ourselves.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being a Servant King, laying down your life for sinners.
